A NEW TRADITION

Families want to celebrate their loved one’s life themselves, in their own way, at their own pace.

Many cremation families are opting out of using a traditional funeral home for their memorial service or their Celebration of Life and instead look to family and friends to help them create something meaningful.

When it comes to planning a memorial service, or Celebration of Life, families are doing things a little differently now; a little more casual, a little less of the formal, “one size fits all” funeral home experience. For some, it might mean planning a tribute at a local, favourite restaurant or hotel, or hosting a simple, intimate gathering in the backyard with family and friends, while for others, maybe it’s a private moment shared over a glass of wine or cup of tea, quietly remembering the good times right at home.

FAQs

Do I need to use a funeral home to hold a memorial service or Celebration of Life?

Not at all. Many families prefer to plan a tribute for their loved ones themselves, and are opting to use a restaurant, hall, hotel, or even hold a gathering in the family backyard.

Do you offer funeral or memorial services?

We don’t. We decided early on to focus on what it is we do best, and let families choose to say goodbye to their loved one in a way that suited them best. Many cremation families today are opting out of using a traditional funeral home for their memorial service, and instead look to family and friends to create something meaningful, whether that’s a private, at-home gathering, connecting online, a Scattering Ceremony, or at a Celebration of Life event. Families can also arrange to have a religious service at their local community church, without funeral home involvement.

How do I know if the venue I choose will allow me to bring the urn for the service?

In most circumstances you will find that the venue you select to have your service will be accommodating regarding having the urn present. Please check with the venue where you will be holding your service for their particular guidelines, if any.
