Robert (Bob) Barr
January 28, 1951 - March 8, 2025
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Bob Barr. Bob passed away peacefully surrounded by family at the Grace Hospital on March 8th, 2025, at the young age of 74.
Born on January 28, 1951, in Nipigon Ontario, Bob was the beloved son of the late Robert and Marjorie Barr.
Bob was predeceased by his grandma Lil and Bert who took Bob and his 3 sisters in as their own when tragically in 1954 his dad was killed in a car accident and his mom was hospitalized for 2 yrs.
Bob is survived by and will be lovingly remembered by his wife Barb Wiebe, Kathy Barr (mother of Bobs 3 children) and Elizabeth Punak (mother of his first child).
Bob adored his kids and is survived by Rob (Sophie), Katelyn (Damian), Hayley (Jerry), and Ian (Leto); Step kids, Matthew (Kelsie) and Dylan (Rachael); Grandkids, Jack, Brielle, Alexie, Aiden; Nieces, Karan, Tammy, Lara, Jessica and Kristie; Nephews, Robert and William. Bob also leaves his sisters Pixie (Lee), Bonnie (George) and Linda (Gordon).
Bob’s first love was always his kids and family. Even though relative distance wasn't always a friend, his heart belonged to his family. He was a kind loving man who valued friendships and kindness and held no hate in his heart for anyone or anything. He would correct anyone using the word hate. He loved his cowboy boots, stampede belt buckle, loved to try new recipes, sew, patch his jeans, do daily crosswords and always had a comb in his pocket for that perfect head of hair.
Bob was a free spirit and lived life to the fullest. In the early 1970s is when part of his journey began, going from coast to coast and back stopping everywhere in between. He didn't want to miss a thing.
He took multiple jobs from fishing boats, midway manager at Calgary stampede, sawmill worker for B.C. forestry, an extra for many episodes on the beachcombers show, playing the part of Santa in the mall and so much more. Bob was proud to have lived in a teepee and a van at different points of his travels. A true rolling stone. He loved meeting people from all walks of life, listening to someone's story, telling his own or firing off a joke.
He loved to write poems and in one of his poems he wrote for his kids. “Use your wings when your younger, it’s your world to see. I think u need to look around to decide where u want to be"
In 2007 Bob wrote a book called,
L - is for apple
S - is for ham
A fascinating story of his life and such a tribute to himself. He couldn't stress enough for anyone to write about their life. It was very therapeutic for Bob.
Bob was a private person, and his wish was to not have a funeral but to have his ashes spread in Gibsons, B.C. That wish was fulfilled, so we will now celebrate Bob’s incredible life.
All that knew and loved Bob are welcome.
A Celebration of life will be held at the St. James Legion, 1755 portage Ave. On Friday, August 22, 2025, from 12:00 -3:00 p.m. (Lower level)
In lieu of flowers a donation can be made in Bobs name to the heart and stroke foundation
