Catherine Christina Kennedy (nee McPherson)

April 20, 1950 - July 29, 2026

On July 29, 2026, our beautiful Mom passed away with her daughter and son beside her, after a long battle with kidney disease.

Our Mom is lovingly remembered by her daughter Gwendolen (Brian) and son Christopher (Joyce); her sisters Edith and Vonda; and her brothers Wilfred (Doris), Roy, Ricky (Phyllis), and Nat, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her parents, Herbert and Dorothy; her sisters Nadine and Betsy; her nephews Ricky and Jordan, her great nephew Jordan; her former husband, Peter Kennedy; and her beloved puppies, Luke and Lily.

Mom was born in York Factory, Manitoba, on April 20, 1950. Her family later relocated to Churchill, Manitoba, a place that shaped many of her fondest memories, until she moved to Winnipeg in 1969 after her daughter was born. She dedicated many years of her life working for the Canada Revenue Agency until her retirement in 2014.

Her truest joys were gardening and her profound love for animals. Her compassionate spirit shone brightest when she was surrounded by nature and her pets.

We want to extend our heartfelt gratitude to the staff and the many friends she made at the PRIME program at Misericordia Health Centre for their exceptional care, compassion, and support throughout the years. Going there twice a week brought her so much joy.  When asked how her day was at PRIME, her response was always, Awesome.  I love it there!  We would also like to thank the staff at Tuxedo Villa Personal Care Home.  While she only resided there for six days before she passed, the care and compassion provided to our Mom and to our family, was exceptional. We will forever be grateful to them for helping her pass peacefully.

There will be no formal funeral service. She will be brought home to Churchill, Manitoba, for the spreading of her ashes at a later date. In honor of her love for animals, we request that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to any animal shelter or rescue of your choice.

Fly high Mommy. We will love and miss you forever.

Do not stand at my grave and weep
I am not there. I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow,
I am the diamond glints on snow.
I am the sunlight on ripened grain,
I am the gentle autumn rain.
When you awaken in the morning's hush
I am the swift uplifting rush
Of quiet birds in circled flight.
I am the soft stars that shine at night.
Do not stand at my grave and cry;
I am not there. I did not die.
