James Gordon Ryland

May 24, 1927 - March 20, 2026

Peacefully, at the age of 98 with family at his side, James (Jim) passed away. He leaves to mourn his children, Wendy, Dan (Maureen), Suzanna, and Jamie, his grandchildren Christopher, Nichole, Grant, Jessica, Evan, and Karli. He is predeceased by his wife, Joan Phyllis Ryland (nee Fraser), his parents, Hubert & Hazel Ryland, his brothers George and Marvin and sister, Helen and his son-in- law, David and daughter-in-law, Lisa.

Jim was born and raised in Winnipeg, Manitoba. He moved to Montreal in 1966 and returned to Winnipeg with his family in 1981. He began working for CNR Railway in July 1942 until his retirement in 1986.

He was active with Winnipeg South Osborne Legion Branch #252, volunteering there and participating in his much-loved Karaoke nights up until shortly before his passing.

He was a devoted family man and his children have many fond memories of summer family trips to Kezar Lake & Old Orchard Beach (Maine) and Ayer’s Cliff (Quebec).

A Celebration of Life service have not yet been planned.

A donation in lieu of flowers can be made to Big Brothers Big Sisters of Winnipeg or the Canadian Cancer Society.
