Rene Preteau

August 24, 1946 - May 15, 2025

Rene Preteau passed away peacefully on May 15, 2025, at the age of 78.

Born on August 24, 1946, Rene was the beloved son of the late Aubert and Denise Preteau. He is survived by his devoted wife, Elizabeth (Mitchell), and his children: Ghislain (Lisa) and Rene Jr. He was a proud grandfather to Jesse and Sydney, and a great-grandson.

Rene is also survived by his sisters: Celine Shewchuk (+ Peter), Georgette Tetrault (Richard), and Yolonde Delorme (+ Jack). He was predeceased by his first wife, Marie-Paule. He was also predeceased by his brothers Donald and Normand, and Normand’s first wife, Monique.

A skilled carpenter by trade, Rene was never one to turn down a good time. He loved to laugh, share a drink, and surround himself with friends. He had a deep love for his family and a lifelong passion for the outdoors—especially hunting, fishing, and camping.

Those who knew him will remember a man who worked hard, played harder, and left behind more memories—and stories—than could ever fit in a single obituary. 

A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, May 23, 2025, at the Parish of Saints-Martyrs-Canadiens, 289 Dussault Avenue, Winnipeg, MB.

Interment will be at Saint Boniface Cemetery, 917 Archibald Street.
