Alice Dixie Shaw

(nee Kasper)

November 9, 1935 - February 1, 2026

With gratitude for a life well lived we announce the peaceful passing of our mom and nanny, Alice Shaw (nee Kasper) on February 1, 2026. Mom spent her final months under the wonderful care of the staff at Calvary Place in Winnipeg.

Alice was born at the St. Boniface Hospital on November 9, 1935. She was the first born of Molly and Ed Kasper. She grew up with her siblings, Bill, Shirley and Irene in Winnipeg’s North end.

On September 20, 1958 she married Glen Shaw, a small-town boy from Morris, her love and life partner for 64 years. Together they raised their four D's, Diane, Doug, Darlene, and Debbie. She was a stay-at-home mom devoted to her family.  Mom was always available to pack a lunch, iron a shirt or chauffeur a ride to school.

Alice was a wife who supported Glen in their life filled with adventure, travel and a very busy social life. Glen's career took the family up to Thompson in the late 1960s. They built lifelong friendships up north and welcomed relatives and friends and everyone into their home.  Canada Safeway transferred our family back to Winnipeg and we settled in St. James.  The house on Wharton became a hub of hospitality with gatherings in the basement rec room, and summers poolside in the yard.

Mom and Dad were avid travelers, visiting family and friends in England, Portugal, and the Cayman Islands. Island house in Corpus Christi, Texas became their winter home for many years, where they enjoyed good times with their fellow snowbirds.

Alice had a passion for country music, she was always up for a game of cards or dominoes, and sometimes she was unbeatable!

Mom was very sporty, her whole life, taking part in softball, bowling, curling, and golfing at Breezy Bend, and enjoying the socializing afterwards.

With all the entertaining and family to take care of Mom was a wonderful cook and baker. She had the ability to feed so many whether it was around the pool or the dining room table. Her cabbage rolls, pickles and cookies were legendary.

Mourning her passing are her children, Diane (Lawrence), Doug (Lesa), Darlene (Don), Debbie (Jim), her grandchildren, Graeme (Morgana), Jennifer (Kyle), Derek, Jessica (Craig) Karina (Garett), Kevin, Isabelle (Tristan) and her great -grandchildren, Owen, Gordie, Harrison, Oliver, Charlotte, Tavian, and Jacelyn.

Alice was predeceased by her beloved husband, Glen in 2022 and by her parents, Molly and Ed, in-laws Alfred and Effie, her sister Irene, sisters-in-law, Mabel and Dolores, brothers- in law, Allan, Klaus and Mel.

Also mourning her loss are Alice's brother Bill, sister, Shirley, sister-in-law, Eileen brother-in-law Raymond (Dianne), along with many nieces and nephews and friends.

Throughout her life, mom found comfort in her Roman Catholic faith.  She was an active member of her parish volunteering her time for funerals, bingo, annual tea, and other social gatherings.

Alice will be remembered fondly for her dedicated commitment to family and friends and for her service to her parish church and her faith in God.

Alice's family would like to pass along their thanks to Mom's caregivers and friends made at Metropolitan Kiwanis Courts and heartfelt thanks to her caregivers at Calvary Place for their excellent and thoughtful kindness to our beloved mother in her final months.

A special thanks to Karen, whose friendship and regular visits meant so much to our mom over the years.

A funeral mass will be held May 5, 2026 10:30 am. at St.  Paul the Apostle Church 2400 Portage Ave.

Mom and dad were dancing partners, and we all hold fond memories of seeing them hand-in-hand during a slow waltz or a lively jive.  With faith in God's promise of eternal life, we find comfort and happiness knowing Mom has joined Dad once again dancing together in heaven.
