Aline Sveinson Obituary

April 11, 1944 - March 30, 2025

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Aline Preteau Baylis Sveinson   on Sunday March 30th at the Health Sciences Centre at the age of 80.  Aline passed peacefully with her Husband Paul and children Michelle, Tim and Jonathan by her side.

Aline was predeceased by her first husband Doug Baylis, parents Jean and Leona Preteau, sister Paulette Marcotte, brother-in-law Maurice Coulombe and nephew Ron Remillard.

She will be lovingly remembered by her husband Paul, daughter Michelle Dore, grandchildren Jake and Jenna Matwiy, son Tim Baylis (Debbie) and grandchildren Chris and Breanne Calvert, and son Jonathan Baylis (Jennifer) and grandchildren Zachary, Hunter, Rylan and Grady as well as her sisters Jeanette Trudell (Riel), Rita Coulombe, Claudette Remillard (Jacques), and many nieces and nephews and their families.

Aline was born on the farm in St. Malo with the help of a midwife on April 11th 1944.  She was the second oldest of five daughters born to Jean and Leona Preteau.  In school Aline always had to be at the top of her class in all subjects and couldn’t accept second place.  She was crowned Queen of the St. Malo winter carnival in Grade 12 and went on to take secretarial courses in MIT where she met her husband Doug.  Their first daughter Michelle was born in Winnipeg in 1965 and they moved to Killarney in 1968.  Their son Timmy was born in 1969 followed by Jonathan in 1979.  Aline had also taken accounting courses which helped to provide career employment in Killarney with Dahlman’s and Meyers Norris Penny.  She continued her education through night classes at Brandon University and completed her Bachelor of Arts after summer intersession classes at the University of Manitoba.  Aline and Doug divorced and Her Bachelor of Arts degree led her to a job in Winnipeg working for Child Related Income Support Program (CRISP) with the provincial government.  This is where she met her husband Paul.  They moved back and forth between Winnipeg and St. Malo and Aline worked at the Chalet Malouin before finally settling down back in St.Malo.

Aline was always exceptionally good at sewing and loved to make dresses for herself and her younger sisters as well as costumes and clothing for her children later on in life.  Gardening and travelling were other favorite past-times.  Aline, Doug and family would head out with the camper every August for travel to both coasts with family or Kinsmen.  Aline and Paul would later travel to Florida and Iceland to visit with Paul’s family.

Aline was a loving mother and mémère that would do anything for her children and family and was an active member of Sorority and Kinettes in Killarnery.  She will be remembered and missed by many but most of all by her Grandchildren.

The family would like to thank the wonderful nurses who provided such professional and compassionate care for her, especially during her time at Health Sciences Centre

A Celebration of Life will be held at the Centre Jean Desrosier at 154 St. Malo Street in St. Malo on  Saturday June 7th from 1-4pm.  Please join us for light snacks and to share your memories of Aline.
