Geoffrey Alexander Iles

August 12, 1967 - June 8, 2025

It is with heavy hearts, we announce the sudden passing of our beloved Gentle Giant, Geoff Iles. Loving husband to Maxine and proud, devoted father to Lexie.

Geoff was born August 12th, 1967 in New Liskeard Ontario to Carman Iles and Betty Carleton. In the early days hockey was his passion. His talent and size earned him a spot as a defenceman with the Windsor Spitfires of the OHL. He later found himself playing for the Humboldt Broncos before making the decision to return home and enlist to serve in the Canadian Military.

Geoff proudly served his country for 13 years. His military career started at CFB Cornwallis Nova Scotia for basic training. His first posting, CFB Shilo Manitoba is where he met the love of his life Maxine. With Maxine by his side their journey took them to CFB Kingston Ontario where he was posted to One Line Troop. After Kingston, his final posting was CFB Esquimalt BC. Geoff’s service with One Line Troop took him to Europe, Greenland, Iqaluit, and all across Canada.

Geoff retired from the military in 1998 and together with Maxine, relocated to Calgary Alberta to pursue a career as a fibre optic cable technician. They then moved to Portage la Prairie where he established his own successful business G & M Cabling. In 2006 Geoff took on the most important role of his life, becoming a father, as he and Maxine welcomed their beautiful daughter Alexis. With his new role and responsibilities, Geoff made a career shift and began his career as a Teamster.

With Lexie as their main priority the family made their final move to Winnipeg where Lexie had access to greater educational opportunities. There was nothing Geoff wouldn’t do to enrich the life of his precious daughter. She was his pride and joy.

Geoff made fierce friends wherever he went. Whether in his early hockey days, military career, or working as a Teamster, he was known for his loyalty, sense of humour, and always being the guy you could count on. Geoff was always willing to provide guidance and support, and was a mentor to so many. He was truly one of a kind.

The loss of Geoff has left a hole in our hearts and he will be profoundly missed by all who were fortunate enough to have known and loved him.

Left to cherish his memory is his devoted wife Maxine, his precious daughter Lexie. His mother Betty (Wayne), his sister Kelly (Bill), his father-in-law Mitchell (late mother-in-law Helen), sisters-in-law Michelle and Marla (Sam), brother-in-law Mitch (Tatum). Nieces and nephews; Blake, Aynsley, Zach, Madison, Marshall, Emilie, Macie, Corbin, Camryn, and Carter.

A Celebration of Life will take place on Sunday, June 29th, 12:00 p.m - 5:00 p.m, at the Fort Garry Legion. 762 Pembina Highway, Winnipeg Manitoba.

In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made in Geoff’s honour to Wounded Warriors Canada.
