Gordon Potts
December 14, 1943 - December 30, 2025
Gordon Frederick Potts headed out for one last walk on December 30, 2025, at the age of 82. We’re fairly certain he was greeted immediately by his beloved dogs Duffy, Woody, Dudley, and Daisy, all ready to resume their daily walks in the sky, no leash required.
Gordon is lovingly remembered by his wife of 56 years, Margaret; his loyal sidekick Alphie; son Graham (Lori), grandson Theo, and grand-pup Molly; and daughter Liann (Mike) and grand-pup Odie. Gord made it very clear: family came with either two legs or four, and both were treated equally.
Born in Winnipeg and raised on Enniskillen in the North End, Gordon was the son of Eileen and Richard and carried that North End practicality and warmth with him his entire life. After 23 summers, he met Margaret, and by July 1969 they married, beginning a partnership filled with laughter, teamwork, and the occasional “Gord project” that may or may not have required power tools.
Gord enjoyed a diverse career path that included the Federal Grain, banking, Holt Renfrew, Advance Awning, and finally Elite Metal, where he worked alongside his brother Don for over 30 years. If there was a problem, Gord could fix it. If there wasn’t a problem, he might still improve it, just to be safe.
There truly wasn’t anything Gordon wouldn’t try. Leatherworking, blacksmithing, copper work, backyard and basement train landscapes, you name it. If you could draw it, Gord could build it, and probably make it sturdier than necessary “just in case.” He was the quintessential neighbour, happily clearing snow from sidewalks, driveways, and occasionally entire streets if the plows were taking their time. On his daily walks, Gord always stopped to greet every dog (by name, if possible) and every neighbour, usually with a smile and a joke.
Gord was deeply involved with Scouts Canada, joining as a boy alongside his father and later as a Scout leader with the 33rd Scout Group, continuing the tradition with Graham who now proudly carries it on with Theo. Service, mentorship, and community mattered to him.
As a lifelong train enthusiast, Gordon found great joy spending many Wednesdays with the coach gang at Prairie Dog Central, where trains, camaraderie, and good stories were always on schedule.
Cars were another passion for Gordon, particularly the British ones, including his beloved MG Midget or Mini Cooper. He spent many afternoons and evenings at car shows with Liann in her Ford Falcon or out at the race track, where there was always something to admire or discuss.
There wasn’t a challenge Gordon wouldn’t take on, and never hesitated to arrive - often unprompted - with an overflowing bag of tools to help family and friends. We are privileged to have learned from his many talents, limitless knowledge about home renovations, history and endless jokes no matter how inappropriate the timing.
Today, smile because of the many memories and gifts he shared with us all.
A private cremation and intimate celebration of life has taken place. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Gordon’s memory to the following charities:
