John Terence (Terry) More

April 29, 1947 - September 27, 2025

With his family by his side, Terry passed away early Saturday morning, September 27, 2025 at St. Boniface Hospital.

Terry was predeceased by his parents John and Gwendoline More and is survived by Peter More and Peter’s mother, Christine Scalena.

Terry grew up in Winnipeg’s west end and graduated from Daniel McIntyre Collegiate and the University of Manitoba. Terry taught high school mathematics for many years at Kildonan East Regional Secondary School. He enjoyed coaching girls’ volleyball. Under his guidance, his teams won many provincial high school titles.

His true passion was golf. At an early age, his father helped launch his golf career. For over 40 years, Terry excelled as a junior, amateur and senior golfer. His career started at Southwood Golf Course in 1957. In 1964, he won the Manitoba Junior Championship and lost in the Canadian Junior semi final; he won the Manitoba Amateur in 1967 and went on to play on 5 Willingdon Cup teams (1972,1978,1979,1981 and 1982); was low amateur in the Manitoba Open in 4 years (1976,1977, 1978 – placed 2 nd in the overall championship and 1981) and was awarded the Harold Eidsvig Memorial Trophy. On becoming a senior, he won 4 consecutive Manitoba Rural Senior Championships (2004-2007).

Terry was named Manitoba Golfer of the year in 1978 and inducted into the Manitoba Golf Hall of Fame in 2017. Terry and his son Peter were the only father/son to each win the Manitoba Junior and Amateur Championships.

The family would like to thank Dr. Anand and staff at Access River East for their exceptional care and support throughout the past 3 years.

Cremation has taken place. If friends so desire, donations may be made to either St Boniface Hospital or Concordia Hospital.

Terry will be missed.
