Marlene June Stevens

June 17, 1939 - January 4, 2026

It is with much sadness that we announce that Marlene June Stevens, passed away suddenly after a brief illness on Sunday, January 4th at the Grace Hospital at the age of 86 years.

She was predeceased by her husband, Donald Stevens on February 11, 2005 and by her eldest son Todd Stevens on March 1, 1989.

Marlene is survived by her sons, Jon Stevens of Bangkok, Thailand and Mike Stevens and his wife Delina of Winnipeg, Manitoba. She is also remembered by her 6 grandchildren, Ben Rissin (Kait), Zeph Rissin (Sara), Sophie Stevens, Emma Stevens, Manita Stevens and Kennedy Stevens all of Winnipeg, Manitoba, plus her 2 great grandchildren Jonah and Lily of Winnipeg, Manitoba. Marlene also leaves behind her beloved cat Chloe.

She also leaves behind her younger sisters Vicki Hawkins (Terry) of Kenora, Ontario, Susan Hawkins (Vic) of Winnipeg, and her younger brother Randy Lindquist (Marilyn) of Winnipeg, Manitoba. She was predeceased by her younger brother Rod Lindquist (Ruth) in 2022.

Marlene was born and raised in Winnipeg, Manitoba, but spent many summers in Kenora, Ontario as a teenager. She went to school at Windsor Elementary in St. Vital and then later, Glenlawn Collegiate where she met Don. They were married on May 21, 1960 and eventually moved to Charleswood after purchasing their home on Coventry Road in 1967. Marlene lived in the family home for 59 years until the time of her passing.

An avid lifelong reader and lover of books, Marlene worked at the Charleswood Library from 1981 until 2012. Marlene also loved to travel abroad and learn about new places and cultures. She went on countless trips with her sister Vicki and wished her health would have allowed her to continue traveling. Marlene’s home was always filled with a variety of unique reptiles, fish, animals and especially her beloved cats.

A private cremation has taken place and a Memorial Service will be held sometime later this summer in Winnipeg.
